Private/Public School Options
Our After School programs are designed as an affordable way to provide the best learning experience possible for students in public or private schools. We are not here to just entertain children. We are here to help them develop into fantastic, productive young adults. Our horses and instructors are wonderful at developing horsemen and women, but they are even better at helping to develop character in our youth. Each lesson combines horsemanship with practical developmental skills - communication, problem solving, time management, order of operations, etc. Our curriculum is designed and written to include social/emotional learning goals that correspond with horsemanship and riding skills.
Our public/private school families will also benefit from the option of bus transportation to the farm (available from Carlisle High School, Lamberton Middle, and North Dickinson Elementary - also St.Patrick’s School).

Intro A: Intro to Horsemanship
This class is designed for students who are just beginning to ride. The class focuses on safely handling horses, understanding basic care, and developing balance and confidence while on the horses’ back. Because this is a beginning class, enrollment will be limited to 8 students. Students will not necessarily ride each day - they will focus on learning to groom and safely tack up before riding. As students develop the ability to care for the horse, they will begin riding. Several skills will be taught off the horse to ensure comfort for the horses and safety for the riders. Each student will progress at his or her own pace. At the same time, the horses help teach social skills such as being a good partner, humility, honest commiunication, etc. Our instructors love being part of your parenting team, too. We will help you help your child in many different ways.
Intro B: Intermediate Horsemanship 1
This class is designed for students who completed Intro A.
Students will be given time to develop more confidence on different horses while still increasing riding and horsemanship skills.
Students develop balance, communication and controlled body movements. At the same time, students will be working on developing emotional control, empathy, honesty and other character traits essential to becoming better young adults. Horses teach these traits naturally, but our instructors also love working with families to address character development as a team. Students frequently stay at this level for several years.
Intro C - Intermediate 2 Horsemanship
This class is designed for students who are serious about expanding their horsemanship knowledge and riding skills. Students entering into Intro C must have instructor approval and show scores of 58% or above at Intro B graduation (not schooling shows). Participants in this class will begin to develop a partnership with various horses and will learn to feel the balance, stiffness and resistance in the horses. Students at this level will start showing quick responses to the horse’s needs while still maintaining their balance and control. As with all of our classes, we will stress character development as well. Students will be expected to show problem solving, decision making, and communication skills. They will also be expected to show humility, discernment, and selflessness when it comes to the horses’ needs. As with our other classes, our instructors are happy to help address parenting concerns you have with your child as part of a team helping your child mature and grow.
Because KVA runs like a European Riding Academy, we can not accept new students after September without a skill evaluation and possible private lessons to “catch up” to the group. If you are interested in openings after the school year has started, please contact us with the link below:
You may sign up for as many classes as you choose. Classes MUST have a minimum of 6 but a maximum of 8 riders to run. There are NO REFUNDS for missed classes.
