Horsin’ Around Programs During the Day

Class Schedule and Registration for 2025/2026 school year classes will open on May 15.

Classes are 2 hours long 1 time per week

The information below about our prior classes may change as we work to improve our fall offerings.

Daytime lesson programs are designed to provide the best learning experience for students with flexibility and affordability for parents. Students in all KVA offerings will learn responsibility, develop confidence and independence. Our homeschooling families will also benefit from detailed curriculum and specific objectives for portfolio documentation.

Because KVA runs like a European Riding Academy, we can not accept new students after September without a skill evaluation and possible private lessons to “catch up” to the group. If you are interested in openings after the school year has started, please contact us with the link below:

Intro to Horsemanship (Intro A)

Starter class emphasizing horsemanship and safety

This class is designed for students who are just beginning to ride. The class focuses on safely handling horses, understanding basic care, and developing balance and confidence while on the horses’ backs. Because this is a beginning class, enrollment will be limited to 8 students. Students will not necessarily ride each day - they will focus on learning to groom and safely tack up before riding. As students develop the ability to care for the horse, they will begin riding. Several skills will be taught off the horse to ensure comfort for the horses and safety for the riders. Each student will progress at his or her own pace.

Intro B (Intermediate 1)

This class is designed for students who have completed Intro to Horsemanship

This class is designed for students who completed Intro to Horsemanship.
Students will be given time to develop more confidence on different horses while still increasing riding and horsemanship skills.

Students will remain in Intro B Class until they earn a 56% or above on their Intro B Dressage Test at Graduation.

The majority of skills are acquired at this level, and we allow students to grow at their own pace.

Advanced (Training Level)

This class is designed for students who have completed Intro C

This class is designed for students who have completed Intro C and who have gained approval from our instructors. The students will begin to apply beginning dressage concepts to more advanced movements - shoulder in, leg yields, etc. Each student will apply knowledge of horse behavior, horse anatomy and physiology, and dressage principles to create a partnership with the horse. Students will work on health care, stable management, and business management skills (budgets, personnel management, etc.) This class will have an element of individual learning in a group setting.

Natural Horsemanship

Open to Children and Adults

Students will concentrate on non-riding communication between horse and human. They will focus on rope halter skills and the development of a partnership between horse and rider. These classes will be 1 hour in length. Open to adults.

Intro C (Intermediate 2)

This class is designed for students who have completed Intro B

This class is designed to challenge students who demonstrated the ability to handle different or more challenging horses in previous classes.
Students will be expected to demonstrate more body and emotional control than students in Intro B.
Intro C students will focus on more theory and understanding of the horses' movements

Students should expect to repeat Intro C until they score 56% or above on their Intro C Dressage test at graduation.

PRE-VET/HORSE OWNERSHIP 1

By request, available for students 13 and up (adults welcome)

This class is designed for students aged 10 and up (adults welcome) who are considering owning their own horse or entering into a pre-vet or vet tech program.

We will discuss different ways to keep a horse, land requirements, etc. We will talk about start-up costs and necessities vs. luxuries. We will also discuss health issues, nutrition, and training topics specific to horses. Students will explore confirmation, tack fitting, and different training methods. Finally, students will learn to recognize illnesses and injuries and how to treat them.

This class is not mounted, but we will handle and practice hands-on treatment of the horses. Textbooks and materials will be provided for loan and guest speakers will be included at no charge. This class can be taken in conjunction with any of our Horsin' Around Classes.

You may sign up for as many classes as you choose.  There are NO REFUNDS for missed classes.

We are so much more than a riding stable!
